A new 20mph zone has come into force across 20 roads in Chadwell Heath to provide "safer conditions" for vulnerable residents.
The new speed limit zone was introduced on Monday (June 8), covering streets such as Back Lane, Eustace Road and Morden Road for the entirety of their length.
As well as a speed reduction, the new traffic order also includes a 7.5 tonnes vehicle weight restriction, except for loading.
It follows proposals for the zone made in April, put forward by Barking and Dagenham Council to "create safer conditions for all road users".
The council said on its website: "The introduction of a 20mph speed limit is intended to reduce vehicle speeds throughout the area and create safer conditions for all road users, particularly pedestrians, cyclists, school pupils, and vulnerable residents.
"Evidence shows that lower traffic speeds significantly reduce both the likelihood and severity of collisions."
A copy of the traffic order and the council's statement of reasons for making the order are available to view for six weeks on the council's website, or in person at The Adult Library, First Floor, Barking Learning Centre, Barking between the hours of 9:00am and 4:00pm Monday to Friday.
