The University of East London has announced an international healthcare partnership with an Egyptian university to create new opportunities for research and tackle global health challenges.
The partnership with Merit University, based in Sohag, Egypt, aims to advance education, research and innovation in healthcare and medical sciences through joint programmes and academic exchange.
The collaboration was unveiled during Merit University's Fifth International Medical Conference in New Sohag City, which brought together leading academics, healthcare professionals, policymakers and students under the theme "Good Health – Better Life."

Dr Alireza Monajati of the University of East London said: "This partnership reflects our shared belief that education and research can transform lives and communities. By working together, we can develop future healthcare leaders, drive impactful research, and create meaningful international opportunities for our students and staff."
The partnership, formalised through a memorandum of understanding, will enable joint research projects, academic collaboration, and mobility schemes for both students and staff. Future plans also include the development of dual degrees and joint academic programmes.
The University of East London hopes the agreement will strengthen its international profile and help it address global healthcare challenges.

The conference, attended by regional leaders and representatives from universities across Upper Egypt, featured keynote speeches, scientific sessions, a student research conference, and healthcare exhibitions.
During the event, University of East London representatives led a dedicated academic session highlighting the university’s strengths in applied research, health and education.
The session generated significant interest from both students and academics, underlining the demand for international research and study opportunities.

The University of East London said the new partnership supports its goal of delivering real-world impact through global collaboration supporting the development of healthcare systems, education, and innovation both in the UK and internationally.
