Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed that Gallows Corner is still not ready to be fully reopened.
TfL has told us that more water main work has been identified by Essex and Suffolk Water and said it was "very sorry" to residents and businesses facing yet more disruption.
It is "exploring whether a partial reopening may be possible" but no date has been given for when this might start.
The end date for the project - which includes the renewal of the flyover and the replacement of a water main pipe underneath the roundabout - was initially supposed to be September.
It was then pushed back to spring 2026, following "unforeseeable problems" with the ground conditions at the site, with this new timeline not firmed up until November.
In February, TfL narrowed down this completion timeframe, announcing that both the roundabout and the flyover would reopen to general traffic at the end of April.
While recent drone photos have shown progress at the site - with the first road markings now painted and the bridge almost resurfaced completely - a filled-in pit used by Essex & Suffolk Water as part of its works was seen dug up again earlier this week.
Last week, TfL maintained that it was still working towards reopening Gallows Corner at the end of April, but would not confirm a reopening date.
In a statement issued tonight, Scott Haxton , TfL’s director of capital delivery, said: “All significant TfL works at Gallows Corner have now been completed and Essex and Suffolk Water (ESW) has also made progress with its complex and challenging work.
"During testing ESW identified further work needed to ensure the water main is fully assured.
“We are working together with ESW to ensure this vital work can be done at pace and we are exploring whether a partial reopening may be possible in the meantime.
“We are very sorry for the further disruption this will caused to local residents and businesses, and we remain committed with ESW to confirm an opening date as soon as possible.”
