Gallows Corner works in drone photos days before reopening

More road markings have been painted on the roundabout underneath the new flyover since last week, with arrows and road names now on the relevant lanes.

The drone photos also capture some of the barriers previously lining parts of the roundabout now collected in one spot near the flyover.

Both entry ramps remain without asphalt, while building materials, equipment and in some places pits with exposed pipes can still be seen on the two roads leading up to the bridge, Southend Arterial Road (A127) and Eastern Avenue East (A12).

Transport for London (TfL) maintains that its teams continue to work towards reopening Gallows Corner by the end of April - in 10 days time - but has been unable to confirm a specific reopening date.

Sunday (April 19) marked 300 days since the roundabout and flyover closed to general traffic.

In its most recent newsletter published at the end of March, TfL said works still to be completed at the junction include installing pedestrian crossings, road signs and street lighting, as well as the completion of crash barriers and bridge drainage systems.

A spokesperson for TfL previously told the Recorder: "We are nearing the end of work at Gallows Corner and have now completed resurfacing works on the flyover and the roundabout, while Essex & Suffolk Water is nearing completion of all their construction activities and is currently testing the new water main.

"We continue to work towards reopening the roundabout and flyover by the end of April and we will confirm an opening date in due course."

It is understood that ESW is testing, disinfecting and sampling from the new pipe to ensure it meets drinking water standards.
