Two adults and two children have been taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after a flat fire in Goodmayes.

Fire crews were called at 10.25am today (June 2) to the flat in Breamore Road, as London Fire Brigade received nine calls about the fire.

Four fire engines and 25 firefighters tackled the blaze, which damaged half of a flat on the ground floor of a three-storey building.

One woman was rescued by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus from the ground floor and taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

Firefighters also rescued three adults from neighbouring flats.

They were each assessed at the scene by ambulance crews.

Two adults and two children were led to safety from a flat by a member of the public before firefighters arrived.

They were suffering from smoke inhalation and were all taken to hospital by ambulance crews.

A further adult was treated at the scene by ambulance crews.

Road closures were put in place and people were asked to avoid the area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
