A triple shooting in which two men were killed brings home the importance of "properly funded policing and decisive action" to tackle gun crime.

This is the view of Ilford South MP Sam Tarry after two deaths in Henley Road, Ilford, in the early hours of this morning.

Armed police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 12.16am following reports of shots being fired in a fight.

Three men were found with gunshot injuries. One, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another died a short time later and a third man in his 30 was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Labour MP Sam Tarry said: “My thoughts are with those who have lost their lives and their families, as well as the injured.

"I would appeal to anyone with any information about this incident to co-operate fully with the police.

"This tragedy brings home the importance of properly funded policing and decisive action on gun crime to keep our communities safe.”

Police say there have been no arrests and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.

Crime scenes and road closures are in place.
