THIS is what the new multi-million pound badminton and netball hall set to welcome Olympic athletes from around the world in 2012, will look like.
The computer-generated image has been produced by Peter Emptage Architects, with the impressive building to rise from the ground at Redbridge Sports and Leisure Centre, Forest Road, Barkingside.
As we reported last week, it will play host to badminton players during the Olympic Games and in the days before the opening ceremony as they train in preparation for matches.
The hall, which will take a year to build, will have retractable, tiered seating and a viewing gallery, along with a two-storey accommodation block.
The main sports centre will be upgraded to accommodate wrestling and judo Olympic athletes, while Paralympic goalball competitors will train there.
Twelve outdoor refurbished floodlit tennis and netball courts will also be installed thanks to 6.4million funding from the sports centre itself and a host of organisations including Sport England.
