A JAZZ pianist and a doctor who has helped the police as a forensic medical examiner have been named in the Queen’s New Year Honours list.
Ellis Rich, of Chigwell, is chairman of the Performing Rights Society and runs the Independent Music Group, a worldwide music publishing consortium.
The newly appointed OBE has also worked for EMI and helped discover 1980s singers Mel and Kim.
Meanwhile, Dr Sanjoy Kumar, of Woodford Green, has been awarded an MBE.
The humble doctor said: “I don’t see myself as exceptional, I’ve always kept my head down and got on with things but I am so grateful and flattered to have been awarded this honour by such a high authority.
“I have long been a faithful subject of the Queen and am excited to meet her.
“My wife is delighted for me.”
Dr Kumar has worked alongside the Metropolitan Police for 15 years and has been integral in forging links between medical practitioners and the force.
He also championed a Violent Patient Service which has been running since 2002.
