A Goodmayes pub received donations of football boots totalling 200 pairs by caring customers following an appeal.
The Lord Napier pub, in Green Lane, appealed to customers to donate outgrown children’s football boots, and on Thursday staff held a boot cleaning day ahead of them being sent to the Youth Sports Trust in east London.
Landlady Michaela Smale said: “Kids grow up at a rate of knots and football boots are replaced all the time.
“The appeal, called Project Fair Play, is a great way to put unwanted boots to great use.”
The project is designed to make sure children in the area have fitting boots before the football season begins in August.
She added: “We’re very grateful to all our locals for their support, both in donating their boots and also coming along to help us clean them all!”
