A Conservative councillor served with a noise abatement notice has appealed against the ruling.
Cllr David Poole, of Bearing Way, Hainault, was served the notice last month after neighbours called out the council’s noise enforcement officers twice in one night.
If the Statutary Noise Abatement Notice is broken Cllr Poole, a council tenant of 18 years, could face a hefty fine or a one year jail term.
A statement released on behalf of the councillor following the article published yesterday by the Recorder said: “The notice carries a right of appeal to a magistrates’ court and Cllr Poole has exercised that right.
“Until such time as the appeal is heard by the court it remains sub judice, and in such circumstances it is inappropriate that Cllr Poole should make any comment in the matter.”
Cllr Poole stood down from the board of Redbridge Homes earlier this year, and now sits on the council’s housing scrutiny committee. He previously said he wanted to “use his experience as a council tenant” to help the living experience of other tenants.
He lives in a ground floor flat of the brick-built two-storey block.
