The company behind the building of Ilford’s iconic Pioneer Point towers says it remains “absolutely committed” to the project, after claims work at the site has stalled.

Two companies who say they are working on the two towers in Winston Way, Ilford, claim construction and the fitting out of rooms has stopped since an “administrative delay” forced work to be suspended on Friday.

London and Regent, working on the project together with parent company Empire Property Group, said earlier this week the delay was for one day only, with “everyone” back at work since.

Today, a spokesman refuted claims work remains on ice at Pioneer Point.

She said: “London and Regent are working steadily to successfully complete work on Pioneer Point. We are on target for completion within weeks.”

She also said Empire Property Group was not in any financial difficulty.

It is understood rooms in the two tower blocks were being fitted out, air condition units were being installed and electrical work was taking place when work was suspended on Friday.

The North Building of Pioneer Point is 35 storeys, and the South Building 26 storeys.

One worker, who asked not to be identified, said a meeting was being arranged for next week to discuss “the best way forward”.

Another said: “Security on site are expecting this [delay] to be temporary. The work will finish, that’s the only way it can go.”
