Ilford town centre has lost a second pub in less than a week as The Black Horse follows The General Havelock in closing down.

The Black Horse, in Chapel Road, Ilford closed on March 8, just four days before The General Havelock was repossessed by owners The Scottish and Newcastle Pub Company.

The General Havelock’s owners cited “ongoing issues” with licensing as the reason behind the closure, which occurred a week after the pub was issued with a licensing improvement notice from Redbridge Council due to insufficient door supervisors.

In February, the Recorder reported an incident which saw The Black Horse manager, Jonathan Feld, and his staff attacked by a gang of 15 men over an event cancellation.

It is currently unclear what future purpose the building will serve.
