Ilford’s business improvement district (BID), which has funded everything from its own police team to regular cleaning, has been given a nationally recognised seal of approval.

The district has been reaccredited by British BIDs, the national body for BIDs.

Ilford’s BID was originally accredited in 2010.

It was founded in 2009 and has about 460 businesses, who pay 1.2 per cent of their rateable value into the BID each year.

Manager Ben Collins said: “This is a huge boost to the business and reassures our stakeholders that we have strong management and supervisory systems in place.

“It is recognised as the industry standard to measure a well managed and effective BID.”

Dr Julie Grail, director of British BIDs said: “The system focuses on ensuring that the BID’s stakeholders can be satisfied that the BID is well managed, has strong governance arrangements in place and that it complies with the legislation and regulations which govern it.

“I was delighted to see that the Ilford BID has all of this in place and look forward to seeing them continue their work.”
