It was a happy tail for hundreds of dogs and their owners who raised thousands in a sponsored walk in Hainault Forest on Sunday.

More than 300 people and 200 animals took part in the fourth Woofs and Wellies dog walk for St Francis Hospice.

Their efforts are expected to have raised more than £12,000, which will go towards the specialist care the hospice, in Havering-atte-Bower, offers local people affected by cancer or other life-limiting illness.

Highlights of the day included a demonstration of agility and obedience from the Essex-based Dog Training Centre of Excellence Team. Brentwood dog whisperer Glen Stanford shared tips about behaviour and worked with some of the walkers and their dogs.

Hainault residents Gwen Brinkley and Sue Matsell took part. Gwen, who took along her dog Poppy, said: “We always enjoy the walk.”
