An intrepid MP threw himself out of a plane for a charity skydive on Sunday - despite being afraid of heights.
Ilford North MP Lee Scott described the jump for Saint Francis Hospice as the “worst experience” of his life.
He said: “I’m sure other people enjoy it but I knew I wouldn’t.
“When I touched the ground I couldn’t even stand up - my legs were like jelly.
“But I did it because of the cause and when I say I’m going to do something I do it.”
He was strapped to an experienced skydiver for the jump from 12,000ft, with the pair reaching speeds of 120mph.
The feat has raised more than £3,000 in sponsorship so far but Mr Scott said his feet will be staying firmly on the ground for future fundraising activities.
He was not the only Redbridge resident taking the plunge on the day.
Munmun Rubayet and Aby McBride, who work at Sainsbury’s in King George Avenue, Newbury Park, were supporting the hospice as the store’s charity of the year.
Counters manager Munmun, who raised £175, said the skydive was a “fantastic experience”.
The hospice, based in Havering-atte-Bower, supports people with life-limiting illness and their families.
