A Redbridge headteacher will be using her expertise to help struggling schools across the country after being selected for a national programme.
Carel Buxton and staff at Redbridge Primary School, in College Gardens, have been chosen to support schools in challenging circumstances.
She is one of 96 headteachers to be appointed as a of National Leader of Education (NLE) and the school is now a National Support School.
NLEs provide additional leadership in struggling schools or those in transition to federation or academy status, and can become acting or executive headteacher.
Mrs Buxton said: “We are very proud of the teamwork and achievement at Redbridge Primary over the past years.
“We have been on a journey from special measures in 2005 to outstanding in 2013. We are now in a position to support other schools and work in partnership.”
Charlie Taylor, chief executive of the National College for Teaching and Leadership, said: “It’s great that heads are willing to look beyond their own school gates to help more pupils achieve.”
