Redbridge borough is the eighth most energy efficient local authority in the UK, according to an academic study.
The results of the Imperial College London study, published last month, have encouraged the council to introduce further measures in the new budget 2013-14 to help residents be more energy efficient.
These include: A community litter clean-up programme, new allotments for two primary schools, subsidised compost bins for borough residents, a tree planting project and a new play park in Vicarage Lane, Seven Kings.
Councillor Shoaib Patel, cabinet member for environment, transportation and crime, said: “These figures show that Redbridge is making great progress and we are very proud of this achievement.
“Energy efficiency, along with recycling, sustainable travel and a host of other measures are all helping to make Redbridge a cleaner and greener place to live.”
