Hundreds of residents turned out last night for a public meeting to discuss potential developments in Woodford.
The Save Our Suburbs campaign group met at Woodford Parish Church Memorial Hall in the High Road to answer questions from local residents and make a plan to combat new housing which could spring up in the Wanstead and Woodford growth corridor.
Several sites have been earmarked for the development of 800 new homes and cllr Tom McLaren (Con), who chaired the meeting, pointed out “whichever way this goes somebody will be upset”.
Due to the nature of the sites in town centres in the west of Redbridge any developments would likely be “tall blocks of rabbit hutch flats and not family homes” which has led to much opposition from residents.
A full report on the Save Our Suburbs meeting will be in the Recorder on Thursday.
