The fatal shooting of 19-year-old Abdi Sheikh in Ilford may not have happened where he was found by the police, the Recorder can reveal.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Bedford Road and Ilford Lane shortly after 10pm on Tuesday, to find Abdi in a car, unconscious suffering gun shot wounds.

Paramedics battled to save the former Wanstead High School pupil, but he died around an hour later.

CCTV footage seen by the Recorder shows a good samaritan start giving Abdi CPR before the ambulance arrives, but no one else walking down Ilford Lane reacts, which would be surprising if a gun was fired.

A resident, who does not wish to me named, said in fact the fatal shooting took place at the junction with Bedford Road and Woodland Road – 250 metres away from where Abdi was found slumped in a car.

Abdi, who was known as “Alpo” to his friends, lived around 500m in the other direction, in Sunnyside Road, Ilford.

Another Woodland Road resident Steve Cave told the Recorder police had found shotgun shells in the road the next day.

“About 3.30pm my partner rang me to let me know that shotgun cartridges had been found just outside our house, in the middle of the road and under the car.

“It’s shocking, I can’t believe it, this is normally a quiet road. I’ve lived here my entire life and never known something like this.”

Detectives are treating the death as a murder.

No arrests have been made and inquiries continue.
