As regeneration sweeps Ilford, The Exchange Shopping Centre is calling on residents to share photos of what they most love about the town.

The shopping complex, off Cranbrook Road, will display all of the pictures on a digital screen, and on the third floor there is a special board showing iconic imagery from the 50s and 60s.

Shoppers can vote for their favourite pictures online, and each week’s winner will receive an £150 Exchange gift card.

Capital and Regional, the company which owns the Exchange, conceived of the #MYGREATILFORD competition with a nod to Ilford’s photographic heritage.

In 1879 Alfred Harman founded the Ilford Photo, which brought international attention to the area.

Occupying a large site in the centre of town, the company was famous for its black and white films, papers and chemicals.

And while Ilford Photo has since moved to Knutsford, in Cheshire, the Exchange wants to highlight the famous brand.

Sarah De Courcy Rolls, general manager of Exchange Ilford, said: “We are passionate about celebrating the history of Ilford whilst encouraging our community to embrace the ever changing environment of Ilford and its surrounding suburbs. It is a celebration of our community and the people and places within it.”

There are vouchers to spend at participating retailers available for shoppers who vote five times.
