Rossi Bros ice cream is coming back to Barkingside!
The famous parlour in High Street closed after 70 years last summer, and now a small store will be opening in the Quidsaver over the road from where the original shop was.
Rossi Bros had served sweet treats to residents since 1948 before it closed in October last year and the family has a rich history of making ice cream.
It was Pietro Rossi - the great grandfather of former shop owner David Rossi- who began the family tradition, bringing the art from Italy to Glasgow in 1897.
David’s father also worked in the trade at parlours in Scotland, Brighton and London before saving enough to open a Barkingside store with his cousin Elpedio.
During this time David’s second cousins opened stores in Ilford and Walthamstow.
When Elpedio retired in 1971, he offered the Barkingside store back to his family and David took him up on his offer.
The new store will now open next Friday (May 25) however an opening time has not been confirmed yet.
A spokesperson from Quidsaver said that the store will be serving exactly the same famous Rossi Bros recipe ice cream, and that David has been involved with the opening of the store.
They said that customers can either choose to sit in and eat the ice-cream or take it away with them to enjoy in the hot weather.
They said: “It’s going to be exactly the same ice cream, it’s still going to be Rossi Bros recipe its just changed places and ownership.”
