Goodmayes school pupils have donated sensory toys to terminally ill children at Whipps Cross Hospital.
Year 9 pupils from Mayfield School, in Pedley Road, presented the toys - including infinity lights and play tubes - to the patients on Wednesday, May 23.
The donation was part of their self-started ‘Heroic Heroes’ project, a social action plan to help sick children in hospitals who were missing out on opportunities.
This idea came about after a staff member revealed their 10-year-old cousin was a patient at the hospital.
They received £1,500 of funding from Mayor of London’s City Pitch programme after successfully pitching to a panel of judges at City Hall last December.
Teacher Thomas Nichols, said: “I think it’s really important to do projects like City Pitch because students are able to work outside of the classroom, they’re able to apply themselves to the real world and prepare them for when they leave school.”
