Firefighters rescued 17 people from a hostel guest house yesterday.
Four fire pumps were called to the address in Goodmayes Lane in Ilford at 6am.
A spokesman from Ilford Fire Station said: “We were there from 6am to about 10am but the fire was under control at about 6.45am.
“Seventeen people were evacuated. There was one minor smoke inhalation but he was OK.”
No other people were injured.
