The Ilford Business Improvement District (BID) are trialling an innovative shopping collection scheme, designed to get more customers into the town centre.
Yoohopp, which launches on November 2, is a click and collect project, where buyers can shop online with all of Ilford’s favourite national and independent stores in one website.
The customers collect all their purchases from a point in the town centre, combining online and in person shopping.
BID chairman Ben Collins said: “Online is massive, but the physical place is also important.
“Yoohopp will get customers coming into Ilford town centre who would otherwise just buy things online.”
Mr Collins explained after using Youhopp for the first time, the purchaser gets sent vouchers and offers for shops and restaurants in Ilford.
“Then people might come in to have a discounted coffee, see a play at the Kenneth More theatre or go see Star Wars at the cinema.”
The BID chairman said these kind of innovative ideas were becoming more and more important as the popularity of online shopping grows.
“We have got some really high end independent shops but a lot of them do not have a online presence.
“This allows them to sell their products online, on an even footing with the big national brands.”
Joanne Johnstone, operations director of designer clothing store Zee & Co, in Cranbrook Road, said: “We are extremely excited by Yoohopp.
“Any platform that gives us another opportunity to promote and sell our products is good for us.”
Ilford are trialling the scheme during Christmas with three other cities, Nottingham, Southend and Ipswich.
Mr Collins added it would not have been possible without collaboration between the areas.
