Voters have shunned the flats and hotel planned for The Joker in Seven Kings and said they wanted the pub to stay as it is in a Recorder poll.

It reopened last week after three months shut because a cannabis farm was found in a rented part of the cellar.

But the pub, in Cameron Road, is still due to be demolished next year.

Developers had won permission to build a 19-apartment housing block but have since lodged another application for a 95-bedroom hotel instead.

Only 11 per cent of voters in the poll wanted to see the flats built, while 20pc preferred the hotel.

About 30pc wanted to see “something else” on the site but most - 39pc - wanted the pub to stay as it is.

The new application is still being considered by Redbridge Council.

A ground floor retail unit planned for beneath the hotel could be The Joker’s new home.

The pub’s licence was suspended for three months after about 250 cannabis plants were discovered in a police raid in October.

A 58-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of cannabis production and has been bailed until late February.
