Firefighters and police officers joined forces to host a free safety day offering advice to residents and a chance to find out more about the emergency services.

Woodford Community Safety Day was held at Woodford Fire Station, Snakes Lane West, Woodford on Sunday as part of the Woodford Festival 2012.

This year the London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police gave visitors the opportunity to visit the station, take a look inside some of the emergency vehicles and meet local firefighters and police officers.

A presentation advising residents about how to avoid falling prey to bogus callers was organised as well as general crime and fire prevention advice.

Organiser, Anny Wortley-Millek, said: “The open day was one of the highlights of the festival and the day was extremely popular with families, especially as a lot of the youngsters want to be firefighters when they grow-up.

“The fire crews and police really pulled out all the stops and all the children were extremely excited to clamber into the helicopter.”
