Fairlop Primary School in Colvin Gardens, Ilford celebrated 80 years since its opening on Friday 13.
The day involved the school children making hats and banners to mark the occasion, as well as being taught a dance by two local dance teachers from Forest Academy.
At the end of the day, both staff and pupils performed their routine to parents outside of the school building.
The head teacher, Ms Gail Brannan, said: “The staff felt that we needed to celebrate the school’s heritage and the story behind its opening”.
A foundation plaque to commemorate the grand opening of the primary school was unveiled on August 31 1933 showing the longevity and historical significance of the school.
All 700 pupils took part in Friday’s activities and although the picnic afterwards was cancelled due to the rain Gail says: “The dancing was still successful, and the children really enjoyed working together to celebrate the day”.
