Chas and Dave hits brought young and old together as they danced, chatted, and sipped tea.

Members of the Redbridge Youth Panel organised a tea and dance for care home residents across the borough on February 16.

They laid on tea, cake and music as they set about strengthening the ties between the two generations.

Safer schools team member Kim Cowell, who is also schools officer at Caterham High, Caterham Avenue, Clayhall, said: “When else do they [young and old] get the chance to get together and talk to each other? It was really successful. They had long conversations about the war and danced to Chas and Dave songs. We want to do it again.”

Pensioners from Cranvale Care Home, Buntingbridge Road, Newbury Park were among those at the get-together, which was held in Valentines High School, Cranbrook Road, Gants Hill.
