From Britten to Elgar to Barlow, “All Things Bright and British” were celebrated by two all-female choirs as part of the Woodford Festival on Wednesday.

The Woodford Singers, a women’s choir and teenagers in The Churchfields Singers performed together at Woodford Methodist Church, Derby Road, South Woodford. The festival continues until Sunday with folk, jazz and choral concerts this weekend.

The singers celebrated all things British, including pieces by composers Benjamin Britten and Edward Elgar and Take That star Gary Barlow’s Diamond Jubilee song Sing.

Music by contemporary composers such as Bob Chilcott, Betty Roe, and Michael Berkeley was also included.

Performer Lisa Sharp, of The Woodford Singers, said: “It was absolutely packed and people were really enjoying themselves.”

Supermarket Waitrose donated food and refreshments for the interval and the Woodford and District Floral Arrangement Group prepared corsages for the choirs.
