The Queen’s visit to Redbridge, as part of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations, will bring world-class art to the borough.

A special exhibition called London Pride, showcasing art and design in London over the last 60 years, will mark the monarch’s appearance at Valentines Mansion and Gardens, Ilford, on March 29.

The Queen will tour the exhibition, which will be open to the public until April 1, on the first stop of her regional tour marking her 60 years on the throne.

Paintings, sculptures, and design pieces, are being sourced by Redbridge Council with the help of top designer Sir Terence Conran.

Pieces will include contributions from Tate galleries, The Design Museum, Central St Martins School of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art.

Classic vehicles and memorabilia from the London Transport Museum will also feature and there will be an exhibition of future design.

To coincide with the exhibition, a four-day festival will be held including a craft fair, children’s entertainment, and art from the mansion’s studio artists, local artists and secondary school students.

Mr Conran said: “I visited Valentines in September last year and was impressed with the mansion and the eighteenth century gardens.

“The place will make a fantastic setting for the Queen’s visit and I am delighted to be involved in helping with the council’s plans for the visit and the four day art and design festival.

“March 29 will be a great day for the people of Redbridge and north-east London and, I hope, a very special visit for Her Majesty too.

“I will be there on the day to help out in whatever way I can.”

Members of the public can attend during the visit and are advised to arrive early to claim a good spot.

The council’s cabinet agreed a budget for the visit and exhibition on Tuesday (February 14).
