Seventeen dance groups from schools across London will be taking part in the celebration Step LIVE! at Sadlers’ Wells, Islington, on Sunday.

Representing Redbridge is the WanSteady Crew, a group of talented breakdancers from Wanstead High School.

The boys will be leading an explosive demonstration of high energy tricks and moves, having been expertly trained by Step teacher Gavin Vincent – a senior member of five-time national Bboy champions Soul Mavericks Crew.

Step LIVE! is the end of year showcase from Step into Dance, the UK’s largest inclusive secondary school dance programme, and will feature more than 350 young performers from both mainstream and SEN [special educational needs] secondary schools.

The youngsters all receive specialist dance education thanks to the Step into Dance programme – led by the Royal Academy of Dance in partnership with The Jack Petchey Foundation.

Sue Goodman, Step into Dance artistic and programme director, said the event was a great way to celebrate Jack Petchey’s birthday.

She said: “Jack, this evening is for you. Our dancers are all very appreciative of this fabulous opportunity to perform on the Sadler’s Wells stage and together we all wish you the best and happiest Step into Dance birthday ever.”

The Jack Petchey Foundation is celebrating its 15th Anniversary and Jack Petchey himself will be turning 90 in July.

The programme will include commissioned pieces from internationally renowned choreographers James Wilton and Natasha Gilmore.

Natasha has been working with a SEN group and Step teachers to create a celebration of summer.

This inclusive group hopes to be the core of Step’s new integrated company, which is due to start in September.

38 groups were whittled down to form this year’s final line up following a series of events across London.

Tickets to Step LIVE! 2015 are on sale at sadlerswells.com or on 0844 412 4300. Prices start at £8 and groups of eight or more are eligible for a 20 per cent discount.
