A fast-paced, hilarious and often touchingly romantic musical journey through one young man’s London life, featuring the music of Madness, is coming to Ilford.

The Ilford Operatic and Dramatic Society’s (IODS) youth team presents Our House, a musical comedy including well known songs such as Baggy Trousers and Driving In My Car.

The new production will be brought to life by about 30 young performers, all aged between 14 and 24, who will introduce the audience to Joe Casey, who battles between right and wrong on his quest for love.

Director Jeremy Smith said: “We chose the show as it was extremely lively and exuberant and gave the young actors a vehicle to perform.

“The band Madness have also had something of a revival over the last couple of years so we wanted to give the show a go.

“The majority of the cast were unfamiliar with the songs at first but they have really engaged with them and will attempt to bring the numbers to life.”

The show hit a snag when cast member Rachael Maguire had to pull out two weeks ago after she landed a dream job in London’s West End in Billy Elliot.

Mr Smith said: “The audience can expect a very lively show with big dance scenes. But at the heart of the story is romance, and the all important question, will Joe get the girl?

“There are some pretty spectacular scene changes which were necessary to get the pace of the story right, which was the most challenging aspect for the production.”

The show opens at the Kenneth More Theatre, Oakfield Road, Ilford, on March 14 and will run until March 16. To book call 020 8553 4466.
