Redbridge dance teacher Sasha Mcintosh has reached the final six of the X Factor with girl group Xyra.
Sasha, 22, earned her seat along with the rest of the band on Sunday as they sung to win their place at judge Gary Barlow’s house.
Sasha said: “It is so exciting to be on the X Factor and were thrilled to get through to the next stage.”
She has lived in Dagenham for the past 10 years, and went to Sylvia Young Theatre School in Marylebone and then to Barking College where she studied Performing Arts.
Sasha is a freelance dance teacher with the Pioneer Dance company in Redbridge where she teaches children aged six to 14 different styles of dance including street and lyrical.
Sasha’s mum Michelle Mcintosh said: “All of the girls have worked really hard and I’m just so happy that they’ve made it this far.”
Along with Sasha, Xyra is made up of Beth, 23, Amy, 24, Laura, 23, and Nadina, 25 who only formed seven months ago.
Sasha went for her audition to join the band at the Pineapple Dance studios in London and since then, the group hasn’t stopped.
Xyra has been busking in Covent Garden, they went on a school tour to each of the girl’s local areas at Easter and now they are set to perform to the front man of Take That, Gary Barlow.
Sasha said: “All of the judges are really lovely, they’re all down to earth and very easy to talk to.”
While they were on their way to their first audition for the X Factor, a producer of the show said they saw the girl band busking on the tube, which Sasha said “was just embarrassing”.
She added: “It was amazing to get through and we love performing and to get a standing ovation at our arena audition was brilliant.”
This weekend will see Xyra go to Gary’s house in New York where they will fight to stay in the competition and earn their place on the live shows.
