London-born pop sensation Adele is now a ‘gay icon’ as well as a record breaking singing star.
The Rolling In The Deep singer collected more than half of the votes in a GaydarRadio survey.
She won (55.5%) out of 4,000 votes for Pop Artist of the Year. Meanwhile her nearest rival, Lady Gaga, was left trailing with 18.9%.
Robin Crowley, programme controller at the station, said: “Adele has had a fantastic year with numerous Grammys and Brit Awards, but we know that this is the accolade she has been waiting for.”
Adele also picked up a string of nominations at the Ivor Novello Awards earlier this week.
Rolling In The Deep was nominated for Best Song Musically and Lyrically, while her album 21 is in the running for Best Album.
She also dominated the category for the most performed track of 2011 with two out of three songs - Rolling In The Deep and Someone Like You - in the shortlist.
