It was thought the band’s performance at tonight’s Brit Awards to collect an outstanding contribution award could be their swansong but the announcement of the open-air gig in Hyde Park – where they played sell-out dates in 2009 – means fans of the foursome will have at least one more chance to catch them live.

The BT London Live closing ceremony concert will celebrate the end of the Olympics on Sunday, August 12.

Joining Blur on the ‘best Of British’ line-up will be The Specials and New Order with a special guest to be announced soon.

Highlights of the closing ceremony in the Olympic Stadium will be beamed on to giant screens in Hyde Park.

Tickets for the concert go on sale from February 24 at 9am priced at £55.00 plus booking fee.

From tomorrow, BT customers will have 48-hour priority access for tickets.

Another concert will take place in Hyde Park on July 27 for Olympics opening ceremony.

Headline acts and ticket prices will be announced shortly.

London Live is a partnership between the Mayor of London, Royal Parks and London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

Throughout the Games, there will be top-flight free entertainment and big-screen broadcasts of sporting action at the three London Live locations of Hyde Park, Victoria Park and Trafalgar Square.
