The tour of the BBC talent show was abruptly cancelled because of low demand for tickets.

And the singer from Canning Town admitted he remains in the dark and baffled by the decision.

“The amount of people who spoke to me on Twitter who had been looking forward to it, I’m really gutted for them too,” he said.

“No-one has really explained the reason to me.

“Maybe they oversold it and thought it was going to do better than it would do. It’s a shame.”

James revealed his “worst week” on the show, when ratings slumped to 5m - around half of the peak figures.

“All I can say is that if you’re in that show, it’s not something you pay any attention to.

“I think one of the worst weeks was something like five million (viewers). I’m still grateful for the opportunity to perform in front of five million people.”

James was snapped hand-in-hand with doomed singer Amy Winehouse in 2009. He helped her to battle against drink and drugs demons that eventually claimed her life.
