With the 215-mile long Thames set to star in the Queen's upcoming Diamond Jubilee celebrations, now is the time to dip your toes, so to speak, into what is on offer on the waters and by the banks of the river which runs through the heart of the capital city.
London24 looks at some ideas for great days out on or inspired by the Thames.
Spectacular
If the royal flotilla planned for the Diamond Jubilee does not float your boat, then maybe high-octane adrenalin thrills will. Take to the waters in a speedboat tour of selected parts of the river such as Canary Wharf or the Thames Barrier.

Pleasure
Speeding along like James Bond is not the only way to see the river. Thames bus and tour services provide the chance to see famous sights at a more sedate pace. You can also take to the river to freshen up your commute to work.

Underwater
Children will love finding out what creatures live under the sea at the London Aquarium. There are thousands of creatures swimming in two million litres of water at the Thames-side attraction.

Panoramic
The London Eye sits on the south bank of the river, visible for miles around. Take a ride in one of the capsules for an incredible view of London. See the winding blue band laid out below you and famous landmarks all around.

Historical
Visit Greenwich Pier to soak in naval history. The Cutty Sark has reopened after suffering damage in a 2007 fire. There is also the classical columns of the Old Royal Naval College and the National Maritime Museum to enjoy.
