Celebrating 30 years, the landmark is running an exhibition from Thursday July 26 to Sunday September 9 from 10.30am to 5pm each day.

Andrew Batchelor, the Environment Agency’s Thames Barrier operations manager, said: “We hope as many people as possible can join us this summer so they can get a real insight into how the Barrier has kept London safe from flooding over the past 30 years.

“The free exhibition tells the story of the Barrier and London’s tidal defences and also more about our work along the whole of the River Thames, from its source in the Cotswolds and out to the North Sea.

“For younger visitors there will be plenty of fun activites and games on offer to bring the River Thames and our environments to life.”

To find out more about the exhibition, visit www.environment-agency.gov.uk/thamesbarrier or call Thames Barrier Learning Centre to book a group talk on 020 8305 4188 or email learningcentre@environment-agency.gov.uk.

The Thames Barrier has closed 119 times since it was completed in 1982.
