Having spent a month rehearsing the production ahead of their run at London’s Soho Theatre last year, the actors will be back at Redbridge Drama Centre in Churchfields on February 27 to finally unveil their show to local audiences.

Focused on Neil Yaniky, a born loser, the production shows how an encounter with a motivational guru prompts Neil to confront his sister, Winky, who he believes is holding him back.

Spurred on by self-help mantras, erotic fantasies and dreams of inner peace, Neil sets out to prevent himself “losing in life”.

The play is based on a short story by George Saunders, who has written for The Guardian, The New Yorker and Harper’s.

Producer Rosie Spiegelhalter said: “This is the first time the play has been dusted off and brought out since May last year, so it has been a case of reacquainting ourselves with all the characters.”

In 2012, the group performed Uninvited at the theatre and Rosie described the venue as a “wonderful” space.

Winky was developed at the Redbridge Drama Centre, so it’s nice to come full circle,” she added. “When we brought Uninvited to the stage, we had come from a month of Edinburgh shows in front of a very artsy crowd. So to come to Redbridge and find a young and enthusiastic crowd was such a welcome relief.”

Having received four and five-star reviews during its London run, Winky comes to South Woodford for just one night.

n Tickets for the show, which starts at 8pm, cost £10 or £6 for under-18s and students. To book, call the box office on 020 8708 8803 or visit redbridge
