X Factor host Dermot got 14 per cent of the vote from women in the search to find the small screen’s most fanciable man.

He picked up more than twice the votes of his closest contender for the title, Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch, who got six per cent.

Further down the list, The Only Way Is Essex’s Mark Wright and X Factor mogul Simon Cowell tied for sixth place.

This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby was clear winner in the search for the most fanciable female with 16 per cent of the vote.

Scottish actress Karen Gillan, who plays Doctor’s Who sidekick Amy Pond, was second on the list, but the rest of the top five was made up of more London women - Caroline Flack, Nigella Lawson and Louise Redknapp.

Researchers spoke to 2,000 adults for the survey, which was carried out on behalf of digital TV company Freeview.
