Bhopal: A Silent Picture, has been unveiled by Amnesty International one week before the opening ceremony.

Campaigners and survivors have accused Dow Chemical, who will pay for the wrap around the Stratford venue, of shirking responsibility.

It bought Union Carbide, the company that owned the Bhopal plant, 16 years after the incident which killed thousands.

The artwork, a metal container, will recreate the sound of gas escaping from the factory and feature 3D images and blow-torched mannequins.

Artist Samar Jodha said: “Every evening the container is covered in white muslin veil covered with the names of the victims of the tragedy.”

Amnesty will ask visitors to contact Locog chairman Lord Coe to rectract his defence and to apologise to survivors.

The announcement comes in the same week that members of the London Assembly agreed a motion, calling on Locog and the IOC to rethink their relationship with Dow Chemical.

Bhopal: A Silent Picture, is on display at The Human Right Action Centre, 17-25 New Inn Yard, Shoreditch.
