He’s the club’s top short distance man
Hainault Roads Club cyclist Mark Steers cemented himself as the club’s top short distance man at the Whitewebbs 10-mile race.
The Goodmayes resident finished in a fine time of 22 minutes and 36 seconds, with gusty winds of up to 36 miles per hour throughout the event a major factor in the result.
Essex-based professional Alex Dowsett won the race in a time of 18.18 – over two minutes clear of the field.
While Steers was flying the Hainault flag in the 10-mile race, the remaining club racers were busy training for the upcoming long distance events covering over 100 miles through the Essex lanes.
The club’s 10-mile racewas won by Howard Staunton with 23.53.
Now using the Navestock circuit, which is more technical, the times are slightly slower, but the competition was no less severe with Rob Dulson coming second and new member Dan Smith third in only his second competitive race.
