Doncaster-born full-back in Stuart Pearce’s Team GB squad

Tottenham youngster Danny Rose is looking to use the London 2012 Olympics as a stepping stone to force his way into Andre Villas-Boas’ plans.

The Doncaster-born full-back, who has only made 13 Premier League appearances for Spurs, will be part of Stuart Pearce’s Team GB football squad.

“I don’t think looking ahead to the season, that being part of the Olympics is a negative,” said Rose.

“Obviously for me and Steven [Caulker] we have a new manager so we’ll meet him late, but it’s not a problem.

“The first few games in pre-season you’re only playing 45 minutes getting fitness, here we’re playing 90 minutes against Brazil, then straight into the tournament and competitive games.

“Let’s hope we go all the way and that would be six matches so we’d be raring to go when we return to our clubs — I think it’s a positive.

“The squad’s a tight-knit unit and your chances of getting to play are increased because there’s only 16 outfield players. Injuries and fatigue can happen so everyone has to get the training right and once we do get on the field we can do GB proud.”
