Modibo Maiga becomes Sam Allardyce’s fifth summer signing

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has boosted the firepower in his Hammers squad by signing striker Modibo Maiga from Sochaux in a £5million deal.

The Mali international is left-footed and can play as a front man or out wide, which will suit the Hammers boss’ preferred system of 4-3-3.

The 23-year-old has played in France since 2007, when he moved to Le Mans from Morrocan club Raja Casablanca.

In 2010, Maiga moved to Sochaux, where he managed to score 24 goals in 59 appearances.

The striker was linked with a £7m move to Newcastle in January this year, but failed a subsequent medical due to a knee problem.

However, Maiga has had no problems this time around as he underwent a rigorous medical with the Hammers on Tuesday evening.

“I am really happy and excited about joining West Ham United,” said Maiga.

“I know West Ham are a big club in England and I’m really looking forward to representing them.

“They have huge tradition and it is like joining part of a family and that is one of the main reasons I wanted to come here.

“I know some of the big names that have played for the club in the past and I am proud to be part of a new team back in the Premier League.”
