West Ham midfielder Matt Taylor will miss the trip to West Brom tomorrow (Saturday) because of a family illness.

The 32-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, was hoping to win his place back in the centre of midfield at The Hawthorns, but manager Sam Allardyce confirmed that he would not be in the squad.

“The squad is pretty much fully fit, but unfortunately Matt Taylor’s daughter is pretty ill at the moment so I don’t think he will be available,” he said.

“He needs to look after her at the minute, so we hope everything in that department is going to be ok.”

The Hammers are looking to halt a run of three consecutive defeats, though Allardyce believes that safety is all but assured already.

“We’ve always had the 40-point mark on our mind to be absolutely certain and probably 38,” he said.

“You never know, after the weekend it might be enough already.

“The realistic fact for us is to go and get some points against West Brom like we’ve tried so hard to get in the last three games and failed.

“We haven’t failed by performance,” he insisted. “We have failed by individual errors and of course certain errors by the officials have cost us too.”

Allardyce may well opt to shuffle his pack on Saturday with George McCartney returning to left back and Guy Demel having recovered from illness, returning to right back.

Antonio Nocerino will be hoping for another start, while the manager may also return Matt Taylor to the middle of the park.
