West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has revealed that Jack Collison is moving closer to a return to training, after missing the start of the season with a knee injury.

The 24-year-old has a similar ailment to recently retired Tottenham defender Ledley King had and the Hammers boss admitted in September that it will never fully recover.

But the club are hoping to manage it and Allardyce is hoping to have him back in full training in the near future.

“Jack Collison is moving slowly towards starting training with the team,” he said. “That’s been a long haul for him.

“I don’t know [when he will be back]. We just can’t put a time on it anymore because of the length and time it’s taken to get to this stage.

“We’ll take as long as we can and we daren’t rush the rehabilitation of Jack because we’ve come so long and so far to get to where we are.

“If we over-extend him we may put him back.”
