Stuart Dallas scored on his first appearance for Brentford as the Bees thumped Hampton & Richmond Borough in their opening pre-season friendly.

The Northern Irish midfielder doubled his side’s lead on 20 minutes with a thumping drive just moments after Alfie Mawson headed the Bees in front.

The young centre-back found himself unmarked in the box when he rose to latch onto Jake Reeves’ corner.

Rowendy Schoop, Myles Weston and Leon Redwood also scored to give Brentford a 5-0 lead at half time before making multiple changes as an even younger side finished the game.

Only Harry Forrester, Reeves, Weston, Emmanuel Oyeleke and Pim Balkestein have played competitive football for the Bees out of those who played as Uwe Rosler, who was taking a back seat at the game, elected to play a side comprised, predominantly, of players from the Development Squad and trialists.

However, it could have been completely different as Hampton had a golden opportunity to take the lead after being awarded an eighth minute penalty.

Hampton’s Charlie Moone raced through on goal only to be brought down by Bees keeper Antoine Gounet.

The striker picked himself up to take the resulting spot kick but Gounet redeemed himself, saving well with his legs.

Brentford made the Beavers pay for missing that golden opportunity when Mawson and Dallas both scored within 60 seconds of each other, with the game just 20 minutes old.

The Bees were out of sight three minutes later when Schoop, on trial from Dutch giants Ajax, slotted past Beavers keeper Craig Ross to give the Bees a 3-0 lead.

Brentford could have had four when Weston forced Ross into a smart save, tipping his drive from range onto the crossbar.

But the winger found himself on the score sheet moments later, nodding past the keeper from Reeves’ floating ball into the box on 43 minutes.

And Brentford had their fifth in first half stoppage time when full back Redwood scored a screamer from the edge of the area.

The second half could not provide similar levels of excitement, with Hampton offering very little in the way of attack.

Brentford pressed the hosts once more but a much-changed second half side could not match the efforts of those in the first half.

Brentford (first half): Gounet, Griffiths, Mawson, Balkestein, Redwood, Forrester, Reeves, Oyeleke, Dallas, Schoop, Weston.

Brentford (second half): Gounet (Gledhill 61), Robinson, Thomas, Pierre, Beale, Clarke, Levett, Herbert, Kamau, Norris, Popo.
