Leyton Orient have little time to get over agony of Johnstone’s Paint Trophy exit as they host Crawley Town on Saturday at Brisbane Road.

Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade admits picking his side up for the challenge of Crawley Town in League One action on Saturday is going to be difficult after last night’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Area final exit to Southend United.

Ben Reeves scored in the last minute to deny the O’s a chance in a penalty shoot out and a possible place in the final at Wembley.

But Slade has the unenviable task of raising morale after such a disappointment.

“It won’t be easy picking the players up because that’s hard to take but that’s my job. Given a little bit of time hopefully we can turn it around,” he said.

“It was a big thing for both clubs and we desperately wanted to get to Wembley there’s no doubt about that. There’s no point hiding that. We were desperate to get there.

And in a game Slade believes the O’s dominated, the exit hits them even harder.

“We were the team that were pushing to win it in the 90 minutes, that’s for sure,” he added.

“That was a real kick in the teeth to concede the goal with two minutes to go. “Obviously I’m as devastated and as sick as the fans are and so is the changing room.

“We were desperate to win it and take them to Wembley and it will take a bit of getting over because it hurts.”
