Slade: “It’s not right to be digging out individuals”

Orient look to halt a run of two successive defeats when they entertain Coventry City on Saturday and boss Russell Slade has implored the supporters to get behind the players.

The O’s chief was annoyed when substitute David Mooney was booed by a section of fans during Tuesday’s 2-0 home defeat by Colchester United.

Slade said after the game: “Our fans can be very good here, but I don’t think it’s right to be digging out individuals.

“I actually thought David came on and despite that (the boos) he put on a really positive performance,” said Slade.

Mooney put a header over the bar near the end and Slade said: “It would have been nice for him to have capped it off with a goal, because that’s as well as he had played in terms of his contribution when coming on.”

Slade would like to see the Orient supporters follow the example set by the Oldham Athletic fans last weekend.

“Oldham had drawn with Sheffield United the week before, they had beaten Preston 3-0 at home, then they played us at the weekend,” said Slade.

“It’s 0-0, they had not created much in the first half, yet they got applauded off at half-time and that’s what you want from your fans really.”
