New goalkeeper excited by new challenge

Leyton Orient wasted little time in replacing former number one Jamie Jones, announcing goalkeeper Adam Legzdins had joined the club on a two-year deal late last week.

The former Derby County goalie signed after his contract with the Championship side expired and the new man between the sticks cannot wait to get started for Russell Slade’s team.

Legzdins failed to make a league appearance last season but represented Derby 33 times in the 2012/13 campaign and is thrilled with his move.

“It’s a new set of teammates and I can’t wait to meet them all,” Legzdins told the club website.

“The manager has told me what a fantastic set of lads there is at the club and that was important for me.

“I’m delighted that it’s all been sorted. I was aware that Orient were interested in me last year for a loan move but unfortunately it didn’t happen.

“But once I found out they were interested in me again I spoke to the manager and the goalkeeper coach and it became very clear the ambition of the club is to build on last year so I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”

Legzdins followed the O’s excellent 2013/14 campaign and also experienced the heartache of Wembley last season.

He witnessed Derby losing the Championship play-off final to QPR and understands more than most the pain Orient went through.

“Having been part of the group at Derby and suffering a Wembley defeat too, I can feel what the lads at Orient must be going through,” he added.

“It’s hard to take, but you have to take the positives out of it and remember things you did well, then you can make the improvements that need to be made and go one step better.

“It was important for me to join a team where I would play and I wanted one that would be challenging at the right end of the league table and that’s what Orient offer.

“The football fan I am saw me follow Leyton Orient’s story last year and I saw what they achieved and that’s what I want to be a part of.”
